The POGIL-PCL project implements the principles of process-oriented, guided-inquiry learning (POGIL) in order to improve student learning in the physical chemistry laboratory (PCL) course. The inquiry-based physical chemistry experiments being developed emphasize modeling of chemical phenomena. In each experiment, students work through at least two learning cycles in which they make. The liberal arts in action Emory senior Laura Briggs is double majoring in chemistry and dance, and their honors thesis is a choreographed dance inspired by “Cat’s Cradle.” Their thesis explores the personal nature of belief and religion.
Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) is an approach to teaching and learning in which the classroom environment is characterized by the student being the active participant while the teacher’s role is decentralized. This pedagogy builds on guided discovery, a descendant of the ancient Socratic approach to teaching. , , , , , , and . CHEM Chemistry in Society* (4 Hours). Prerequisites: RDG or College Reading Readiness. This course is designed for non-science majors who seek an understanding of the concepts of chemistry. Historical foundations of chemistry, applications to society and daily life, controversies of contemporary concern and current research topics are explored.
Developed on campus and now available for download, the innovative Safer Illinois app provides users with personalized coronavirus-testing results and reminders of scheduled testing, along with a display of their current testing status that will serve as one of the mechanisms to gain entry to university facilities during the pandemic. Williamson’s curriculum development work includes authoring a general chemistry, inquiry-based laboratory manual, a similar laboratory manual for liberal arts chemistry, interactive CDs for high-school chemistry, and textbooks and supplements for middle-school to college-level chemistry.
